Florian Maier-Archen Diana Garcia

Bell Hooks once said: " That art should be make things unfamiliar" and that exactly what Florian Maier-Archen shows in his artwork. His photographs have a unique style that nobody else has. What you see viewing the view of a beach will be different pictured in this mind. He then takes a picture of it and starts to edit it the way he sees it. What makes it very interesting are the colors he uses and how he uses them. I believe that Florian Maier is fills perfect for this example.
Amazing obscure angles from aerial view that what Florian Maier-Aichen. A twenty century man born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1973. He studied at Hogskolan for Fotografi och Flim in Goteborg, Sweden; he then earned a MFA from University of California, Los Angles. This German takes photographs of a American theme of the nineteen century. His photographs are based drawing and fiction than documentation. He loves adding that touch of painterly illusion that's what makes his photographs so interesting to look at.
What makes him an interesting artist is the difficult techniques he uses that produces his art work to have strong color and exposures. In his photograph, Maier-Aichen takes photograph of interesting landscapes places and cityscape. The location he chose to take pictures is the American West and Europe. He loves taking photographs to show the beautiful natural that the world. Yet, after he has taken these picture he edits them and creates his every own creation, by adding bright colors and cropping them to make them into an unique angle.
In one of Maier-Aichen photograph which is Untitled shows a photograph of the shore of a beach and a highway. This isn't a original photograph; in this photograph he editing the highway and anything that wasn't part of the beach (ocean) he painted it red. The red symbolized the framing of the wilderness and the human intervention. Another photograph he took was also Untitled made in 2005 and in this photo is beginning of a sunrise. What makes this photograph so amazing is the illusion this photograph gives. He had blue where the sun was rising. It made it give an illusion as if the planet was changing rapidly or as Earth was coming to an end. Basically in his photograph he wants to send a abstract and an illusion.
Some of the recent events that Florian been to that were around 2006- 2004. In 2006 he attended 303 Gallery in New York. In 2005, he had another event in Baronian-Francey, Brussels, Belgium. These to events were very important to him simply because this exhibitions was all based on him. One thing is having to share an important event like this one and another is to have a whole event dedicated to yourself! Then he finally made it to the Museum of Modern Art.
In the LA Weekly an article by Catherine Wagley says "Anyone who's mistakenly exposed a rolll of film to sunlight has felt that weird push and pull between stabbing frustration" that's the way Wagley explains Florian technique. She states that what makes Florian Maier-Aichen's amazing is the way he plays with the chance of color. Not only that but he used the different generations styles with old-fashioned, analog technology.

Bell Hooks once said: " That art should be make things unfamiliar" and that exactly what Florian Maier-Archen shows in his artwork. His photographs have a unique style that nobody else has. His photographs explain just that "unfamiliar". His photography is a capture that he finds beautiful that he takes, but he combines that image from what he really sees.
Maier-Archen "That art should be make things unfamiliar" fits perfectly with Hooks idea. There a piece of artwork where he has taken the view the ocean (23). What Hooks is trying to explain with this quote is that what is concerned to be art things that are pretty or beautiful is the real meaning of art. Art can be anything what you want art to mean. That exactly what the picture of the ocean show the brightness of the city and the darkest around it shows that the city or developments has destroy the beauties of nature.
He takes photographs of American landscape, yet edits it and makes it his own. For instance, in the first picture he took a photograph of a beach and the a road (29). What he does in the photograph is make things red that doesn’t involve with the beach; like the road, cars and the people. Another example is a photograph of a sunrise (35), what makes this picture amazing is that in this photograph he made the sun rising blue that makes it look like something is taking over the planet. Bell hooks quote fits perfectly with his artwork.
Maier-Archen photograph of volcano (8) does the similar. It’s a photograph of the view of the lava destroy everything it had touch. To describe the damage the lava has done he edit the picture for everything but the lava to be black the sign of death. He then made the color of the lava really bright for you too focus on that image. His imagination shows what he sees and shares his image throughout his photograph.
